Embassy of Japan

The Embassy of Japan asked Ogilvy DC to create a mural celebrating the 110th anniversary of Japan’s gift of cherry blossom trees to the United States. What followed was a one-of-a-kind, hand-built mural measuring 4×8 feet in size and containing over 40,000 pieces of LEGO whose audience included the Minister of Japan.

I wanted the frame to carry equal importance and imported cedar and birch from Japan for its construction. I chose a traditional form of Japanese water-proofing and insect repellant called ShouSugi Ban where the wood was charred with a torch and then sealed.
